Lessons From Working the Burlesque Show Downtown Last Night

I Love Where I Live

Sometimes this hippie town drives me crazy. Ok, it always drives me crazy.

I am just an angry person. I am like a dog with a bone when things bother me..ya..I am real fun to live with. I just can not let go of things.

I really do like the people in this town. This town has made me a better person. My politics have always been right of center (still a registered Republican). This town, age, and life experience have made me more left of center (say it is not so) now. There are many political issues now that I am very left wing. Catholic school and the Marines were all of my early life experience. I am still all of those experiences and more. My own opinions have changed. I am more comfortable with the person I am now. That is all I will say about that.

This town is very very interesting. A lot of very liberal people here (because of the state I live in..and..Dirty Hippie University down the street)..and..very conservative with a lot of state government, military (active and retired). That makes for a very interesting mix of people.

I love being downtown and meeting/watching the people downtown.

Last night I worked with my friend selling cupcakes at the burlesque show (don't know what burlesque is? click here). My friend makes great vegan cupcakes. We did a great job selling.

I learned a lot at the show last night.

* Learn to Sell!

I was really nervous about selling face-to-face.. I had to go up to each table and ask them if they wanted to buy something. That really is not me. I was the one at Catholic School that had their parents sell most everything except the sure thing neighbors. I learned to sell by phone in college..I wanted to be a stock broker (boiler room style click here *Warning* There is some bad language in this video)..and..got kind of good at it. I sell on the internet..but..I do not have to sell face-to-face. It felt really good to make that connection with people last night.

I did learn to have to work on my pitch quick. I really stunk it up with my first pitch.."It's really great for being vegan". That did not inspire a lot of confidence. I got a lot more sales when they asked what it was..I said.."Delicious". Surprise?! ..more sales. Also, I knew that cupcakes I was selling were great.

If you are having trouble selling..start with something that you use and would recommend to a friend. Do not start selling things you can not recommend with confidence. That is the easy way to start.

*Sex Sells

When my friend (a woman) and I split up the sales we really hit our stride. I would sell to the women..she would sell to the men. Our conversions (sales) were a lot higher (way!). We worked it and had fun.

There is a really successful ClickBank product by Mike Geary "The Truth About Abs" (click here). I think Geary is a GREAT marketer. His product presentation has a choice for men or women. He has great conversions for both men and women. Can you do that in your market?

* Most People are NOT Their Jobs

Sometimes I only recognize people by where I have seen them work. Most everyone is NOT their jobs. There is so much more to their lives than their jobs. The incredible funny, sexy (hot!), confident women I saw perform last night were not their jobs. I saw a stay at home mom (very good mama), shoe store manager, book seller are just a few of the jobs of the incredible women I saw last night. Ya, I knew who they were. Actually, that is what I really loved about the show last night. I have seen many of the women downtown..most all of them moms..last night I was like..wow!

* Find your passion. You only have so much energy..spend energy on the things you love. The women last night were sexy, classy and fun. They loved doing the show and it felt like they loved what they were doing. Stop doing the things to do not give you energy.

* My Biggest Lesson has Two Parts *

There was a really nice girl that was performing in the burlesque show last night. She is a super nice girl and I have got to know over time. She had a really great show last night and I was totally impressed with her.

Here is the thing..

She is about 300 pounds.

She rocked it better than some of the really high class "gentleman's" clubs I have been to before. I was knocked out.

It was like her confidence took over the room. There were a lot of women and men that were a lot thinner and attractive that would never have the stones to do what she did (me!). Right at that moment I knew that I had to be more like her..her confidence. I mean, I was selling cupcakes and nervous about it..she was up on stage half naked..she shined..selling herself and her confidence.

I have a lot more confidence this morning in myself thanks to her.

What are we thinking? Why do we (me) put limits on myself? Why do I care what other people think? I know most people are scared..that is what most all of us have in common. Have the confidence to do what other people are scared to do. Live Life! Do not let other people (worse..yourself) hold you back from your dreams.

We have no idea our greatness.

Part Deux

Listen, this totally self confident sexy woman is not working right now..struggles.

She is a natural salesman and does not know it.

Her confidence extends to her body image and not more than that.

Success is transferable. It is the old NLP self-help (click here) saw.."Remember back if you have ever had success in one area in your life before". Success in areas of life can/will transfer to other areas of your life.

I had a great time last night. Parts of last night really changed the direction of my life..for the better.
